Hippie and The Bald Chick
Laura found herself praying for her sister one night; something clearly answered her and said, “Your sister is fine, pray for your nephew.” “Very strange,” Laura thought, but she did as she was told and began praying for Tyler. As she did the whole idea for I Love You More flooded her mind and heart. Laura never dreamed of being a children’s author but now she felt this was something she was meant to do. After having the idea for the book Laura made a decision that surprised even her. She told her friends to throw her a big party for her 30th Birthday she was going to shed her wigs and call it her coming out party as “The Bald Chick!” She had no idea how important this decision would be in freeing up her energy and creativity.
Laura and Karen knew each other from their days of bartending together in Miami’s famous South Beach. After Laura wrote the book she asked Karen for a mutual friend’s # who she knew was an artist. Being a little nosy Karen asked “Why, what do you have?” Laura explained, “A little book about love that I wrote.” “Well,” Karen offered after reading it, “I may not be a famous artist but I know what love looks like to a 5 year old! I’m sure if we sat down together I could draw these pictures.” And she pulled out a bag of pastel chalks she had gotten at a yard sale for 50 cents and drew the perfect pictures.
As Karen and Laura sat doing the pictures they joked, “Look at this Hippie and The Bald Chick creating a book about love!” The nickname stuck and they were off “Hippie and The Bald Chick out to generate the conversation of love around the world!”
